Music Industry Business pt.2

So the last time I touched on the issue of where the music business is headed in the next 10 years. Now i would like to concentrate a little bit further on how artists no longer need to sign with major labels to be noticed but are able to use the Internet to their advantage.

Welcome to the Internet! A place where dreams come true! No longer does the average artist must sign with a major label, no longer will they be scrutinized under copyright issues with a company and no longer will they be restricted to show off their true talent.

Nowadays, artists are concentrating on distributing their music through various hosting websites such as YouTube, Facebook, Myspace, SoundCloud, Tumblr and Twitter. This is a radical new movement that has been on the roll since a few years back. Many artists started off with posting a simple song or video and soon went viral all over the internet. It doesn't take long to be noticed by the whole world at a single click of a button.

The traditional music business has been like this. Record labels make the artist, they control them in every single way possible and arguably force their creative stream. As seen above the record label has a hand in everything and restricts artists from expressing their needs and wants. Now we are seeing the total opposite of it. We are watching major labels fall. In the past there has been the Big 6 Labels that controlled the industry, now there are only 3 left. Why? Simply because of the internet. No longer do artists sign their soul away to these corporations but now can earn money fairly and meet their wants and needs.

With the internet not only have they been able to file share and express their creativity but now they are able to make money off their hardwork. For example YouTube artists such as David Choi, Kina Grannis and Chester See started off just posting videos and now they make a living out of it, earning revenue through the YouTube Partnership program as well as Google Adsense. Google has played an important part promoting their hardwork.

Even Justin Bieber had a viral start to his career! The internet is a powerful tool and it can make or break an artist. It is all up to the artist to choose their path and if planned properly, they could make a huge impact on the music industry. Watch artists emerge from their shells and soon enough we are able to fill the world with harmonies and melodies to accompany peace.
